Just came from a NYE party of professionals (lawyers, doctors, ceos of small tech companies). The attitude was *shrug* over Brian Thomson death.

As the head of a for profit health insurance that caused much evil and unnecessary death, he’s not really that different from a drug dealer.

32 health systems dropped some or all Medicare advantage plans between 2023/2024.

Common reason include excessive prior authorization, denial rates, and slow payment from insurers.

45-60% of health systems considering the same action (dropping some or all Medicare advantage plans).

Scripps Health in San Diego dropped all Medicare Advantage plans coverage.

“It’s become a game of delay, deny and not pay” as per Scripps CEO.

In the second half of 2023, at least 15 hospitals/health systems dropped some or all Medicaid’s Advantage plans.

UHC was the worst but they are all bad

In 2018, 92% of drs say prior authorizations have a negative impact on patient clinical outcomes. 7 yrs ago & gotten worse.

insurance makes it harder for doctors to treat patients- lengthy admin nightmare of recurring paperwork, phone calls, bureaucratic battle.

In 2019, 25% a physicians say prior authorizations have led to a serious adverse event. That was six years ago and has gotten worse.
