But this section from Chapter 41? The holding of breath. A glimpse into Mr. Mack's personality. The building of tension. Another held breath. Then how Lavalle breaks that tension? Beautiful doesn't begin to do it justice.

I wish that the impact of Western settlers on indigenous communities would have been explored more deeply, but it was more of an aside than anything. If you're interested in THAT type of story, I suggest reading Isabel Cañas.
