“Troubling” is one word.

...2/2 but Stanley's ideology escapes when explaining why rural poor whites turn to bigotry.

And now that he's fled to Toronto, his epilogue's call to resist fascism is hollow at best.

It's all very much what you'd expect from a guy who taught at Yale. Incredible analysis, reeks of privilege.

Saying it again: Jesus was a radically progressive rabbi. Anybody who thinks christofascism or American theocracy is in line with Him ought to re-read the Sermon on the Mount. (Hint: it’s the reams of red font that talks about love and kindness and giving ‘til it hurts)

Young women do this to keep tabs on each other for safety, presumably because they feel more comfortable telling friends about plans for dates or sex than telling parents.
But with a partner? GTFO.
Boyfriend is at best a simp, worst a possessive weirdo.

No dude they literally said on record they didn’t know what some of their songs mean, they just sounded catchy.

The erosion of and contempt for expertise and science has infantilized the public and our decision making.
The amount of sick, maskless people on my airplane right now is staggering.
It’s so easy. And yet the collective amnesia of 2019-2021 decimates us.

My biggest criticism of both DIS and PIC is that they’re pillaging a beloved franchise for banal and ever-expanding intellectual property. They’re not even being bold enough to destroy it. Just fizzling out.
And that started with Bakula and Enterprise.

Best songwriter to touch a microphone? You’ve lost the plot.
He and Paul famously had no idea what many of their songs even meant.
Surely Freddie Mercury ranks higher than John Lennon’s solo career.

Thank you. Catchy tunes with McCartney & Lennon but a wife beater, child beater, fake-nik who arguably broke up the Beatles.
Plus “Imagine” was the only decent thing he did after 1969.

…4/ But that's a fruitless exercise, because,

“What is above all needed is to let the meaning choose the word, and not the other way around. In prose, the worst thing you can do with words is to surrender to them.” (Orwell, Politics and the English Language)

...3/ for what Beers describes in detail is the historical tension between Trotskyists and Stalinists, fascists and communists, "Ingsoc" and eastern communism.

I suggest he might identify more as a centrist or libertarian today. Or better yet, a socialist critic and lover of liberal democracy...

...2/ The author rightly contextualizes Orwell's racist and misogynistic beliefs as both wrong today and typical at the time. That's important because he is not a darling of the political far right. He is an avowed democratic socialist, but even that is one-dimensional...

How do adapt to that? Well, it's going to take mental flexibility. Willingness to innovate. #Risk acceptance. And strategic foresight. DM me for some good futurist and risk management reading. 3/3

The future is lower quality, more disruption, and still higher costs. #Sustainability and adaptation strategies will help but things aren't getting better. #Resilience culture is about accepting, mitigating, and if necessary avoiding risk by changing how we work, live, and do business...2/3

Fines are not cash grabs. They’re penalties for breaking the rules we’ve commonly agreed upon to govern how a safe and secure society works.

There are no cameras on empty roads. They’re placed in designated community safety zones, i.e. schools and old folks homes.

You should read more.
