I don't think we can ever escape (the play of) representations unless we reframe them as simply what we are doing when do a cognition: representing to ourselves a representation of our imaginary reality.

What happens if you think about "representations" not as stored things, but rather as moments, or movements, where our minds make present to us again something that was present before?

I'm pretty sure it's not yet clear how this will be seen in the long run by the voting public; what the republicans are always going to say is a foregone conclusion; and I'm not at sure that (anything like) all leverage has been irreparably lost. But I share your disappointment in the moment.
