I like how I essentially got my answer two seconds after posting this by reading about Daimon and Card Sharp (I'd just done Westwoods).
Some keychain guy wanting The Author to make a thing a Thing, 'lore', etc, to 'the keychain guy might be onto something'. lmao

Thanks so much for the replies!

Ooh, a hot tip. It doesn't come better than VSLit. 🫡

If you have time for one last Q, and I'm sure you've been asked before: did poncle&co. give you free reign with your specific brand of flavour, or did they have some ideas behind the ten billion things you interpreted?
(Unless it's a secret.)

meanwhile when i'm awake i end up writing down far more useful phrases like... (checks phone) "hamsterboard trellis"

(and yes, that is what i actually picked up my phone to write when i was reminded of the other line)
as i was drifting to sleep i had a random thought and was like "that's a banger line, GOTTA write this one down"

checked my phone the next day and all i'd written was "we were living extreme lifestyles with no limits".
thanks, half-asleep me. sounds like it could have come from a 1970s antidrug PSA

[insert also ten million guided by voices songs]

[except bob pollard himself retroactively gave me licence by singing 'and if that's what you think you heard/then that's what you heard']

mondegreens cont.

ARE YOU THE SAD MAN? WHOA OH OH OH OH
- jimmy eat world, the sweetness

however, i have a tradition of never looking up the lyrics to that song cuz i'm right.

and it was within reason to think @themountaingoats.bsky.social would sing 'get pretty sad to metal now and then' imo
