Is this to replace in house halls provided directly by the uni?
It is about time that student flats such as those run by Unite were properly regulated and providers fined for any major breaches of standards (repairs not being carried out, unannounced visits etc)

Need standardised training for cllrs in dealing with landlords complaints as nominated persons, as well as legally mandated timeframes for them to reply to such issues. Support for students to raise complaints is poor to nonexistent ATM.

Another big issue is that you can complain to a "nominated person" in a local councillor but very often they can be thick as pig sh*t and / or have no training in dealing with complex landlord issues

Councils let landlords off the hook far too often, especially the big student ones. Expecting a 19-year-old with English as a second language or no previous experience of landlord law to resolve issues with no help from local authorities is unfair.
