Reminds me of Blackadder:

"Scum I was to that beat, nothing but scum. 'tis for my accent and my situation that I am condemned. 'tis for the want of better graces and the influence they bring, that I am to board this prison hulk."

"And for all them murders you done."

Yes, but even Poirot's last story has *spoilers*...

I love that Shakey let the A-sides do the heavy lifting, but always wrote or co-wrote the B-side to get his royalties. No wonder he had no time to paint the shingles.

As someone who worked in bookshops for a few years, perversely it's the customers that turn up after 2pm on Christmas Eve that are the nicest, most grateful customers, because they know they've left it too late, and you're both aware that you are their only hope.

TBF they look more like The Beatles than the ones Sam Mendes picked.

Follow-up idea: Get Harty. Grace Jones returns to finish the job she started.

The Cookd&Bombd Forum has been doing this every Christmas since 2007. It's amazing that we've got to 2025 and there are still some 'obvious' choices that still haven't been used in that time. www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index...

You can still dip into the freezer cabinet of your local newsagent and pull out a pair of these.

You've reminded me that Prisoner Cell Block H deserves a new streaming audience.

I went to see him at the Jazz Cafe, hoping for lots of Virgo Red and He's Coming-era tunes, and instead got this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPS8...

If you want to relive that kind of thing, a visit to the Kelvedon Hatch nuclear bunker is a must. There are a couple of floors that are essentially just government offices from the late-1980s, furniture, stationery, computer terminals and all - an actual time capsule because it's all in situ.

Reminds me of the (probably apocryphal) story that Fred West used to play 'Yeh Yeh' to drown out the 'noise', much like Peter Cook's Mr. Jolly.

We'll play a melody and turn the lights down low
So that no-one can see

You can imagine this fellah in the village pub, spouting shit with the farmer about his 'seasonal labour'.

By the way, now Boundless has gone under as well, do you have another route to publish your other MiML volume?

Love these - I recently discovered that my childhood high street in Potters Bar had an impossibly cool gas showroom that was demolished before I was old enough to remember it.

Just to let you know that I've got twin girls going to university, and they hate leaving behind their two cats. Luckily, your Pete is an uncanny composite of them, so I'll be ordering a couple of mugs once we've worked out which colours to have!

For me (Clive) they look like the hands of a Dr Seuss character that's shrugging in a 'What are you gonna do?!' kind-of way before bursting out of her back...
