If cities are just a weekend or occasional thing, check Kitsap County, WA, especially Bremerton, Port Orchard, Bainbridge Island ($$), Poulsbo, Kingston. Semi-rural county, but central/north are solid blue. Not really a gay scene but people are very accepting and kind. Ferry access to Seattle.

I do. Grant narratives are very nuanced and each application and funding cycle is different. An AI could never evaluate an application as effectively as a person with real world experience.

Unfortunately it is becoming increasingly accepted and even recommended among grants professionals to use AI on applications. Not universal - lots of us have varying ethical and logistical concerns - and certainly funders are not enthusiastic, but it’s there.
