The real truth is: use good vermouth AND keep it in the refrigerator. Even then, it only lasts a month or two. Oxidized vermouth is bad juju. Dolin Dry in the green bottle is a good place to start: 6 parts gin to 1 part vermouth. For an interesting variation, try a nice sake instead of vermouth.

Part of the problem with hiring every divorced asshole who wants to hold a gun is that 95% of those guys are the biggest lamest cowards in the world who wouldn’t bust a grape in a fruit fight.

What's really sad is that there is a kernel of truth to what RFK is saying. Early-onset puberty in girls is linked to exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). It's rare, but something that RFK would latch onto, completely misunderstand, and spin in a nonsensical way.

Yeah, they are. Total Fertility Rate (TFR) is expressed as the number of children the average woman has. 2.1 babies per woman is considered a replacement level, not 2.1% of woman having a baby.

I realize this is humor/sarcasm, but let's be real: no paramedic is going to run over someone from ICE pointing a gun at them. This will only stop if/when our state and local government prosecute these ICE crimes.

Arresting federal ICE agents while they are doing their arrests is a bad idea. But there are videos of ICE agents assaulting citizens, and those agents go home at some point, and can be arrested in their homes without any provocation.

There was a time not to long ago where I would have agreed with you. That time has passed. Plus, what state law would he be violating? IANAL, but probably none. I’m sure Newsom would be violating federal law, but isn’t that almost the point?

Not sure if it needs to be that complicated. Can he do it unilaterally? That’s what Trump would do.

As I posted elsewhere in this thread: Any “bailout” should be means-tested and focused on preserving agricultural capacity as a national security issue, not just paying off the republican farmer donor class, which is clearly what Trump will try to do.

Not sure if I would use the word “fail” until we try it. That’s how Trump wins - he just floods the zone with terribleness. We need to do the same.

That problem of how tariffs will impact rural economies will take a relatively long time to actually occur vs the general threat of fascism and a government shutdown, and therefore is way down my list. But it’s fine if you want it to be on yours!

I much more worried about what happened in Chicago at the apartment building where masked federal agents terrorized families with young children with no warrants or probable cause. By comparison, the farmers are just fine.

I think the idea is to withhold federal tax remittances to the IRS for *California state employees*. Significant, but not the same as the whole state doing it, which is nearly impossible and would require group action.
