I still have almost a foot of snow left in a low shady spot where I piled my snow in the winter....

I suspect that is what it takes to keep them away from the nest so the chicks survive, kind of like what humans do to protect their kids from bears and the like.

Nice shot. Poor bird, that must be tiring keeping all the predators away... but then you can get the pic while they rest up. 😀
