Spinning a new release from @bluenoterecords.bsky.social - Some Other Stuff is Grachan Moncur III's 1964 follow-up to his classic debut album Evolution. Avant-garde-tastic.

Whenever something dawns on me, I often say to myself, "Oh I see, uh, Thonmi..."

The fact is, I would now like a steelbook for every Troughton story.

And now the steelbook has arrived, which hopefully means The Savages is going through quite a few letterboxes today.

Well, look what's just arrived. Remembering/Forgetting The Savages is on disc 3, by the way...

It was fun watching these ropey prints as though freshly returned from Hong Kong. I'm old enough to remember every blemish, tramline and jump from the 1992 VHS release, which retailed at the increased price of £12.99 because BBC Video had added an intro by director Morris Barry.

What's that? Buy Spearhead from Space for the sixth time in my life? Alright. But it must be the last. Absolutely the last. Final. Full stop. Never again. Cross my heart and hope to die. Or at least until the Standard Edition comes out.

It's been about 16 months since I was asked to make a doc about The Savages and 13 since I went to interview Peter for it. So it was great to finally be at the BFI last night to watch the animation on the big screen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this by @cooraysmith.bsky.social. It probably doesn't shift my opinion of the transmitted story very much, but it certainly adds to my already substantial appreciation of this era. It's the first of The Black Archive series I've read - I'm already looking for my next one...

Reading now while, appropriately enough, listening to a jazz record.

Had to buy a new 4k player as my old one packed up over Christmas. Naturally, the first thing I'm watching is some black and white telly from the '50s.

That does it. The NYT Spelling Bee won't let me have TIFFIN.

I realise I've never really been familiar with the episode titles for The Box of Delights, probably because of the VHS compilation.

Years ago the only way to get widescreen versions of some films on VHS was to buy a box set full of postcards. These days it happens with 4k and steelbooks. I keep the faith with physical media but this sort of thing just pushes me towards digital.

The original performance of Nineteen Eighty-Four on Sunday, 12 December, 1954, was preceded by a five minute Interlude at 8.25pm. I don’t know which one, so let’s enjoy a bit of the classic potter’s wheel… #Kneale1984

Don’t miss Nigel Kneale’s adaptation of Nineteen Eighty-Four at 10pm on BBC Four. It looks like we’re getting the BFI’s lovely restoration of this live performance from 16 December, 1954. Be sure to follow @tobyhadoke@bsky.social and @accordingtojond@bsky.social. #Kneale1984
