Spinning a new release from @bluenoterecords.bsky.social - Some Other Stuff is Grachan Moncur III's 1964 follow-up to his classic debut album Evolution. Avant-garde-tastic.

The fact is, I would now like a steelbook for every Troughton story.

About 10 years ago I directed a shoot of Blondie performing at BBC Maida Vale. I had cameras everywhere, of course, including one pointed at drummer Clem Burke while I manned another over his shoulder. I then spent two weeks editing it all into an hour long programme...

Remembering/Forgetting the Savages is the best Doctor Who physical media extras I've seen in years. Far better than the actual story. Kudos to @0tralala.bsky.social, @tobyhadoke.bsky.social, and everyone involved.

Just watched the #DoctorWho documentary Remembering Forgetting The Savages. What a brilliant piece of work. It really puts one of my most-wanted missing stories in context. Than you to everyone involved.😁

Thanks Jon. So glad people seem to like it. Wonderful contributions from @0tralala.bsky.social, @nothinglane.bsky.social, @drtauk.bsky.social, @markayresrws.bsky.social, Gav Rymill, Marcus Hearn and others. And of course the ever wise and watchable @tobyhadoke.bsky.social.
In a highly crowded field I'm struggling to think of a Doctor Who documentary I enjoyed more than @stuartdenman.bsky.social's Remembering/Forgetting The Savages. Excellent content, magnificent context, delightful graphics.

I got carried away.
I was surprised to see a documentary about the making of The Savages described as "feature length" but they're not kidding, it's 100 minutes long, the same length as the story itself. Awesome. The 1968 BBC training film fronted by Shaun Sutton, trailing Christopher Barry on Z Cars, is absolute gold.

And now the steelbook has arrived, which hopefully means The Savages is going through quite a few letterboxes today.

Doctor Who - The Savages... It's not clear from the packaging which features are on which disc, so here's a breakdown:

It was fun watching these ropey prints as though freshly returned from Hong Kong. I'm old enough to remember every blemish, tramline and jump from the 1992 VHS release, which retailed at the increased price of £12.99 because BBC Video had added an intro by director Morris Barry.

What's that? Buy Spearhead from Space for the sixth time in my life? Alright. But it must be the last. Absolutely the last. Final. Full stop. Never again. Cross my heart and hope to die. Or at least until the Standard Edition comes out.

It's been about 16 months since I was asked to make a doc about The Savages and 13 since I went to interview Peter for it. So it was great to finally be at the BFI last night to watch the animation on the big screen.

I thoroughly enjoyed this by @cooraysmith.bsky.social. It probably doesn't shift my opinion of the transmitted story very much, but it certainly adds to my already substantial appreciation of this era. It's the first of The Black Archive series I've read - I'm already looking for my next one...

Stuart worked his arse off on this documentary and his experience shows in every brilliant visual flourish and thoughtful segue. Not a stone is left unturned and this film has a unique flavour all its own. And it’s about the same length as the story!!
I've made a little something for this. Well, 100 minutes of something.
