It's been deliberately undermined from within. Gibb and Shah particularly culpable. BBC journalists need to go on strike until they are removed IMO.

When you look at the growing far-right online media eco-system in many Western countries, you quickly get a sense of a completely different perception of what constitutes reality and basic facts, long before you get to difference on opinion or perception.

I'm acutely aware of the flaws in the current implementation of the BBC.. and I would be at pains to point out that what I am defending is the principle of publicly funded, public service broadcasting in contrast to billionaire owned media. Murdoch is in the wings, rubbing his hands in delight.

The greatest instrument of soft power this country has ever had. The turning of its natural allies against it through the charge list you lay out has been a deliberate act by Tory appointees determined to bring it down and replace it with billionaire owned and controlled media.

This is the most deranged situation. We are literally being kicked about by fake-newsers threatening to bankrupt our own public service broadcaster, to shield an insurrectionist from a reality that he can’t accept.

I don't think the population will start critically evaluating what they see broadcast into their living rooms just because it stops coming from the BBC. They'll still trust the news and current affairs and we'll get far less minority representation in drama and creative because it's not commercial.

Whatever flaws the BBC has, if it dies then something will fill the gap - and whatever private capital would replace it with would be worse. Much worse.

You're mistaking what I'm defending. It is the principle of publicly funded, public service broadcasting. It does not have to be via the BBC but creating a replacement seems to me a waste of time. I have my view of what the best strategy for reform is, which I expressed.

Again, not something I have any control or influence over. Just a statement of fact.

Anything I think about improving the world outside the four walls in which I live is 'wishful thinking' because I'm one person with no power. The same is applicable to every issue facing our society. I don't have any power to change it. I'm sorry about that.

On the first question - I listed the broad steps in the previous post.
The second.. that is a question for others. I'm just a working bloke.
