if you really want to eat like a local then you want a deep fried pizza/pizza crunch or a deep fried scotch pie. The mars bar thing was originally made up for tourists. Although a haggis or black pudding supper is old skool as well

it's possibly "just" ageing- the joints really do get sore in ways no-one anticipates. Or underlying joint issues that just don't bother so much until you get older.
