The kanji ateji spelling for “concrete” (混凝土) is a mash-up using “mix,” “congeal,” and “earth." Pretty spot-on. However, it turns out there's an even WORSE way to write this kanji: with the kanji 土 and a bunch of katakana piled on top of it to make a new kaiju kanji.

Recently one of my nephews stopped by and I showed him the old Mac we had set up in our living room.
