it being a father daughter space movie x2 when I was raised by an only cry at space and dead dogs dad!!??!?!

also perfect use of timmy chalamet. the boy shines at being 15 and unimportant.

there's a kid in my class who will definitely get a diagnosis soon and all he says all day is sound bites about the solar system. he would've LOVED this. I loved this.

top four are favorite new releases of previous year.

I like good movies and also the bad ones that I like.

"I'm very judgmental which is absolutely something that is not acceptable now. I know that you know people always say, 'I'm not judging, I'm not judging.' I'm judging. really, my profession is judging. I make distinctions, I make further distinctions, and that's what I do." - fran lebowitz

also, everything I've heard from my husband who is a little brother suggests that this is exactly what it's like parenting boys.

and no spoilers, but THAT is how you withhold information for effect. sometimes you do it because you can't write and sometimes you do it because you're a master.

this is an insanely human movie and a masterclass in story telling. everything happened before the movie starts, not much happens in the middle, and what little happens in the end broke my heart and carefully pieced it back together.

the snails will come for all of us. you're not safe in the city or in the country, and the sisyphean struggle that you might then encounter rabbits feels very much like flow as well.

it's always something.

a live action short or film with no spoken language communicating its message clearly is impressive, but it's even more so with animation when someone has built a world entirely out of thin air but still captures very real but intangible aspects of the world we live in.

this is my wicked. if it would't wreck my letterboxd year in review, I would watch this every day until May. so clearly a labor of love. adam mckay x will ferrell is such a winning combination.

only 66 more days until life has meaning again.

when I turned to my husband to see if I had ruined the movie, he said, "I think it was actually pretty good. I wanted more pig though and the only compelling characters were nick cage and the dad who only had a couple good monologues adding up to like 15 minutes."

so yeah, should've been a short.

the cinematography is impeccable. loved the sound design and I'm never going to turn my nose up at some good trees in movies.

this is the problem with being too good at watching movies. I said to my husband, "ugh I can see exactly what they are trying to do with this, but the writing is so frustrating. it sounds like a short film."

and then I look up the director and EVERYTHING he's done before this is a short film.
