Imagine something meaningful and original about sitting on a grassy hill as a teenager with your girlfriend, looking at the stars coming from a machine that hasn’t been young, touched grass, been in love, or thought about its place in the universe.

They will, but it’s not one for one tradeoff. What the US does science, in terms of scale, can’t be duplicated elsewhere, not without decades of massive disruption.

I only just recently learned about the extortionate system libraries have to follow to stock ebooks, and was horrified. Did not consider that the authors would benefit from it. What am I to do with this ambiguous horror?
