Which is to say I'm not surprised you'd enjoy this, and SWoM has changed how I view narratives and helped me really enjoy such things and enjoy doing them myself! ^_^

Not always popular with the viewers at large — he's seen as a coward. But I remember the second or third time he did exactly what you're describing I laughed because I recognized it as "the shield" from Swords Without Master: ceding glory to the enemy, and grounding an outlandish show. I'm a fan!

Watching One Piece (it's a very long-running anime) there's a character who does exactly this: Usopp. He's a "liar" and in many ways the "face" but his major role is to be the everyman who points out why everything the pirate-crew filled with superpowers does is ridiculous & impossibly difficult!

I snagged the book, but I hear the extra playbooks are rad.

If you want to snag addons but have already pledged you can: Manage Pledge -> Continue -> then look for the word Add-ons link in the little arrow-sequence near the top of the page.

It's more fiddly than I like but hopefully this helps!

In the live action? Hecks yea! :D That's some good casting right there.

Good thing our bandit-turned-hunter remember seeing such a thing back in the ruins. So now the group is heading that way. Some because they're friends. Some because they want to learn more about the ruins. And none really aware of what those ruins might be hiding...

She's been looking to become an alchemist, to brew some elixirs to help her manage her cursed condition. But alchemists won't part with their secrets cheaply. Since she isn't family he told her she would have to basically find something impossible - like a piece of an Ancient device.

You see she joined those bandits when they were a little more Robin Hood. But they hid near some Ancient ruins. And the bandit leader kept delving into them probably deeper than he should. And slowly he changed, becoming more cruel, till she left them, leaving behind some bad blood.

It may partially be a weapons preference thing. Rival Sirens specifically with some weapons feel near-impossible, whereas up-route feels more loose in that regard. I agree with whomever said the poison on Poly is real-annoying though, and can accidentally be a run-ender sometimes.

They can rip my em-dashes from my cold-dead hands >_< They're my favorite punctuation because the rules around them are so loose it lets me write a lot closer to how I speak. Also the first book I wrote I did on a mac-laptop and they're a 3-button shortcut on those. So I got used to using them.

Hopefully he'll forgive me even though I wouldn't use whatever magical powers he thought I posessed to just fix it for him. I really love these goofballs.

Normally around this time one of them likes to nap in a sun-spot that comes in through a window. They're don't understand that the sun shifts throughout the year. The cat wanted me to pull the bright spot down from the wall and onto the floor where he likes to nap at the normal time.

I personally play both for different reasons, but I can see why a number of people might want one or the other, or be willing to embrace the opposite.

Many (if not most) video games are just versions of this (some like CP2099 let you set your look but not your name, others like Spiderman or God of War definitely only let you embody a char with minimal choices). In the rpg space we find it very weird — but it's very common as a gaming pasttime.
October 21, 2025 at 6:48 PM
Mind you, I agree. But I can see that embodiment of previously existing character is just fanfic, and regardless of the fact that I don't write it, I definitely can see how popular it is.

Pound of Flesh was brilliant. The way the information is encoded in that adventure is worth studying. So many ways to run it too (letting players focus on what's most interesting).

Ugh. I literally just had this happen again today. I really don't get it.

Two things. One, it can be a bit of a slow burn, and it's much darker than you might expect. But yeah I second this one.

Thanks for the advice it actually helped a lot!

Tried your technique. Made it to deep docks ^_^

I think my big complaint is that the currencies seem jank, and I'm not sure what they're doing with the 2 contact damage. I found myself grinding for rosaries inside of 30 mins and I was like "what is happening in this game... this isn't fun"
