Everyone I know with a VR headset has a Quest and they all have such bad tech issues all the time. Meanwhile, I'm just vaguely annoyed with the Windows Mixed Reality UI that goes away when you open SteamVR. Can't believe I made the right call going for the weird discontinued HP headset

I can only imagine the decision paralysis

Also, someone needs to do a CGI nuke properly one of these days. One of the most distinctive and well-donumented phenomena caught on film and when we have the technology to depict it properly, TWO directors with budgets decide, "nah, gasoline bomb"

The guy who taught me CNC plasma cutting can't retire because he's working off medical debt due to injuries he sustained on the job, including injuries from an acetylene explosion (we didn't even need to have acetylene at all. Less dangerous fuel gasses would work fine for our application)

I got out of manufacturing and I'm only going back if I can move to Canada and get some actual union representation. The culture here is fucked. You're a joke if you care about safety. Everything is run by manchildren and the kind of executives who fire managers that care about OSHA compliance.

A system based on this can never make a warp bubble that encompasses itself. The vacuum energy is very low compared to that of matter, so even the greatest possible deficit is never going to match the energy of matter needed to construct it.

It's probably not a thing. A DoE experiment a few years ago showed that the Casimir effect (roughly, the reduction of local vacuum energy below ambient in nanoscale cavities) substitutes for actual negative energy on a tiny scale, but fundamentally can't be scaled up

My only issue is that the way I pronounce it in my head makes me think of Ace Combat, then I keep thinking about Ace Combat and forget about it

Yes, but when range and miniaturization are both important, visible light lasers make a lot of sense. Shorter wavelengths can be focused to longer ranges by smaller optics

When you know it's a Lovecraft thing, you become even less comfortable with saying the full name

Reentry - a space flight simulator (NASA capsules) is the best fit I know of.
Nucleares (PWR power plant) also kinda fits, but I can't really recommend it given my experience with its tutorials not working

I'm wondering how good its grenade launchers are gonna be. If it's capable of indirect fire from a reasonable range, it could be incredible for capturing bases

What really boils my blood is when players think that fully voice acted stuff is an example of how good AI is even though there are real voice actors credited
September 12, 2025 at 8:07 PM
I have the same reaction, but having attempted to contribute amateur voice lines to a mod, but the project being abandoned due to two thirds of the volunteers desappearing after the first round of recording, I'm a little more forgiving. If they used AI for writing, though, instant loss of interest

There's an independent setting for whether to give your friends those notifications (I think it also toggles whether they can see your library). I forget how exactly it works, but my friends can still send me invites. I'll dig a bit when I get back to my computer if you'd like

Yeah, it's incalculable just how much better things would be if everyone could afford to have their own place if they want to, both to get out of bad domestic situations and just to be more free

Where I am, it's not enough for owners to preserve their real estate investments by killing new developments and constraining supply. They've also gotta maximize demand by making it illegal for unmarried people to live together.

They made a headset that doesn't kill you, though (it mind controls you)

But you see, it was a software bug that's been patched, so the grav drives are fine now. That's actually the story.
