A) this is patently false. Many infectious diseases can and do kill “healthy” people.

B) those who aren’t “healthy” matter too. Statements like this play into the assumption that disabled and vulnerable people are expendable.

That only the “strong” deserve to survive. It’s eugenics.
The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services has repeatedly claimed: “If you’re healthy, it’s almost impossible to die from an infectious disease in modern times.”

That is dangerously false.

Experts Push Back on RFK Jr’s Infection Comments
The new Secretary of Health and Human Services has made claims about measles and other communicable diseases that could lead to sickness, and even death, his critics claim.

really don’t like the saneist/generally ableist language i see thrown around so casually. it annoyed me on x/instagram/etc., and it annoys me here. calling policies/government officials “insane”, “crazy”, what have you, lessens the very real, very dangerous, reality of their ideologies

It's National Library Week and it's been one of my life's joys to serve my community as a librarian.

One thing you can do this week to support libraries is to call your reps to get IMLS funding reinstated.

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines.

When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

in case you were wondering, taking a Celtic studies minor in the U.S. (at the only school in my state that has one) means taking a British history course because they aren't offering any other courses related to your minor this semester and having to supplement any information related to 1/

Hey, so it's National Library Week. You're going to see a lot of calls to get a library card and check out books. All well and good. But I'm going to ask you to do something a little more supportive: speak up.

it’s national library week! if y’all love libraries as much as you say you do, take some action this week to show it. contact your elected officials, attend board meetings if you’re able, use library resources, attend events, renew your card, get a new card, whatever it is you’re capable of

It’s never too late to start wearing a mask. Now more than ever it’s important to protect your health & the health of others

No one is coming to save us, but we can save each other

A well fitted respirator (like an N95) protects against Covid & shows solidarity with disabled & marginalized people

We are living through unprecedented times… and everyone has a story to tell.

Don’t assume your social media profiles will be there forever. Write things down. Make hard copies.

Share your suffering, fears and pain.

You don’t have to be a writer. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just write it down.

The failure to reckon with transphobia as a currently central motivation of the far right will continue to plague those disturbed by its rise for a decade or more

Rather than standing with trans people many liberals have pursued appeasement and helped the wider shift to the far right in the process

Everything in politics is intentional. There are no accidents.

No one "accidentally" gives a Nazi salute.

No one "accidentally" votes for the Laken Riley Act.

No one "accidentally" gives up control of the NLRB early.

No one "accidentally" supports a genocide.

Honoring Dr. King’s legacy means continuing the fight for justice alongside those who paved the way. Disability justice teaches us that rights are not guaranteed—they are won through solidarity, community, and collective action. The work continues. #DisabilityJustice #MLKDay

One thing before tomorrow:

Use your local libraries.

Get your card.

Borrow books, manga, films, audios, ebooks.

Recommend titles for purchase (usually online).

Attend promoted activities.

Fill out those "How are we doing?" questionnaires.

Tell your kids that libraries are good.

They are.

Hey a great way to start organzing and protect your community is to wear an N95 or better as were in a "quademic." No one is saving you if you become disabled. Community organizing regularly leaves disabled people for dead. Actively pursue anti-ableist organaizing.

I've seen a lot of people in the US talk about community today. But very few know what that means. Community isn't just you and your friends. It includes disabled people and other marginalized groups. It's masking and taking precautions to protect others. It's caring for others!

As inauguration day approaches, a gentle reminder that people can’t just move to another country. Especially people living with disabilities.

Moving takes resources that most don’t have, and few countries will accept people with chronic health issues.

Now is a great time for leftist groups to show some solidarity and start taking disability justice seriously… but that’s going to require some repair if you spent the past couple of years saying disability justice had gone too far because of people asking you to mask up or require masks at events.
