When the motive is genuine, it's not virtue signaling, it's just being virtuous.

We need unskilled folks too! We just need folks! We're a country of folks!

The list of qualifying professions is all very much things that we need. We're pulling the rug out from under carpenters, electricians, plumbers, butchers. People who assemble and inspect aircraft. You know, some stuff it's good to have around.

It's definitely very "noble savage" coded. The idea that only peoples who still actively and broadly hunt animals for food themselves could have a cultural connection to the eating of meat.

It's common to see people react to "everybody should be vegan" by pointing out that there are places in the world where veganism would be unsustainable, and that eating meat is necessary for survival, as well as the fact that for many cultures, it's culturally significant.
November 17, 2025 at 3:03 PM
I feel like it's an extension of the position that many Indigenous communities have a cultural and spiritual history with hunting animals, and so a vegan advocating for everybody to be vegan is being disrespectful of those traditions?
