The Phantom Menace - Hate the pod racing, sorry. Generally feels far too long. Watched an edit on Youtube once which cut around 40 minutes and it was so much tighter. Attack of the Clones - Not actually too bad once you look past the writing. Worst case of something which applies to the whole Prequel trilogy where it needs to lean harder into genre. TPM is best when it’s a political thriller, ROTS when it’s being a classic tragedy. AOTCs need to be a better mystery and go full romance movie with Anakin and Padme. Revenge of the Sith - I watch this the same way I watch Cats. Unintentional comic gold. Padme, who died of sadness. A New Hope - I just don’t think it’s a very good movie tbh. Like... Introduce the main character earlier than 20 minutes in? Introduce "Ben Kenobi" before this stupid 'reveal' that he's actually this awesome old warrior, like.... come on. The Empire Strikes Back - Yeah no real hot take about this one, the best of the OT. Return of the Jedi - Fine but squanders the exploration of whether Vader can, or even should, be reformed. The Force Awakens - Okay let’s get caliente, because I don’t think this one gets enough hate. There was a good and quite current story in the rise of the First Order and Kylo Ren as a kind of alt-right radicalised edgyboy. Instead the New Republic is basically still the Resistance instead of something fighting an insurgency. Just changing that vibe would be do loads to address the more commonly cited problem of so much of it being a ANH throwback. The Last Jedi - It really is remarkable just how much better it is than all the others. Like it’s not even a good Star Wars movie, just an excellent movie. The Rise of Skywalker - Just watch Jenny Nicholson’s video about it. My strongest view is that Kylo Ren should have just been the villain and should not have gotten a redemption.
