Although mpox infection is mild for many, it can be severe. Getting vaccinated is a proven effective way to protect yourself against severe disease, so please make sure to get the jab if you are eligible. It is important to remain alert to the risks from this unpleasant illness. Anyone who thinks they may have mpox should contact NHS 111 for advice on what to do.

Spy bosses let trans women join girls’ computer lessons, group says The Daily Telegraph11 Sep 2025By Daniel Martin Deputy political editor ALLEGED ATTACKER JOHN COWEN SPY chiefs have been accused of flouting the law after allowing biological males to enter a scheme to encourage girls to study computing. The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has started a competition for schools to encourage more women to get into the cyber industry. But the rules of the Cyberfirst Girls competition state that it is open to “all female-identifying students” – meaning boys who have transitioned into being girls at school will be able to apply. Critics have raised concerns that the organisation is in breach of April’s Supreme Court ruling that the word “sex” means “biological sex” under the Equality Act. This means that if a job is offered to a woman it should be to a biological woman and not someone who identifies as one. However, the rules of the NCSC competition state: “All team members must identify as a girl”. The NCSC is an offshoot of GCHQ, the Government Communications Headquarters, which monitors other countries’ radio output. The competition was launched to counter concerns that only 17 per cent of UK cyber jobs are filled by women. Women’s rights group Sex Matters said it was concerned that an initiative to promote girls in computer studies could be undermined by allowing biological males to enter. In a letter to the centre, Maya Forstater, chief executive, said: “I am writing to express concern about the eligibility criteria for Cyberfirst Girls, which breach equality law in Britain, and to request that they be urgently amended in order to bring the programme into compliance. Speaking in Munich yesterday on #HIVinWomen couldn’t have been more poignant. #HIVtreatment & #HIVprevention has seen real falls in global mortality, prevalence & new diagnoses in the last 10y. The PEPFAR funding crisis puts all this at risk, in particular for women. We must all work to protect them
