It seems that after a year of being plugged in the batteries in my UPS are still good for 4 hours powering a WiFi mesh node and Ethernet switch.There are 4 18650 cells inside so this comes up to approximately 1500 mAh per cell which is about 60% of their nominal 2600 mAh capacity.

So here's the initial attempt at a case for the #cyberdeck. The annoying thing is that the box is too thin to fit the keyboard inside. But at least I can bring it around now. I'll probably wait for the #Keebdeck before designing a better case.

The Saint of Bright Doors was a bit hard to get into because I wasn't sure what to expect but after a while it drew me in.

It took me only a minute to dig this one up. I think it's probably real. There are no wild menu items and the prices are closer to what the prices should have been before inflation. Source in alt text.

More #cyberdeck experiments. It seems my little 500 mA fuse might have blown on a load test. Idle current is around 260 mA as expected. We're getting 640 mA right there at a CPU/RAM speed test and if we add a few more USB devices that might be it. Maybe 1.5 amps might be better.

Added a ATECC608 secure element cryptoAuthentication chip to the I²C bus of the #Cyberdeck. It's detected when you scan the bus so I guess it'll work once I get the software set up, which I need to read up on. I've got a few more such chips left over that I can probably use later.

I managed to get battery power working with the #cyberdeck for a little while until I found out that some JST battery connectors have opposite polarity. Which kind of defeats the purpose of having a keyed connector. 😑🤦♂️ Turns out #Adafruit had a warning in their docs for the PowerBoost about this...

Alas, it's not that simple. Getting a WS2812B wired and activated wasn't that hard, but putting it on the edge of the panel doesn't make the screen readable in the dark. Even placing it over the screen at a slight angle the glare is too much. Not sure what else I can do now. #cyberdeck

This really needs some kind of backlight, probably in the form of some LEDs at the edges of the screen. I think the Spleen 6×12 font is the best compromise, the 5×8 font gets 80×30 but it's a pain to read. I can't remember when I used the Linux virtual terminals so much before! #cyberdeck
