"From Blood and Ash" #booksky 📚💙

Took too long for the "good part" of the story to start imo. When in-world explanations are offered, sometimes they feel retconned later on in a careless way. I liked the main couple fine for the most part. The end was shakier. MC should have been more upset.

"The Namesake" #booksky 💙📚

I don't know what the hell happened to me while reading this book. It should be boring, but I wept and sobbed from beginning to end. I'm not an immigrant, but the other themes resonate so strongly with where I am in my life right now that it crushed me. I can't grade it.

"The Underground Railroad" #booksky 📚💙

I think it's a good historical fiction read if you're interested in the era. The plot's good & many of the events devastating, but there's something in the writing style itself that made me a bit disengaged at times. A lot to potentially analyze here.

"Assassin's Quest" #booksky 📚💙

Not giving this book a grade, but: I loved the trilogy, but not the way it ended. Felt super unsatisfying. I know the series continues from here, and that makes it better. This book could've maybe been shorter. I mostly liked it, but there's a looooooot of traveling.

"Dead Man's Mirror" 💙📚 #booksky

I've decided that I like Poirot stories! However, the shorter the story, the less I seem to appreciate the conclusion. The titular mystery was the best out of the three, and "Triangle in Rhodes" felt a bit more like "ok, if you say so..."
Still enjoyable!

"Song of Silver, Flame like Night" 📚💙 #booksky

I enjoyed parts of it, but it's really sloppy. The main character should not have been an "outsider", it made many things feel underdeveloped. The mage villain's dialogue sounded weird.
I think it does get better after the first 100 or so pages.

"Art of War" 💙📚 #booksky

A quick read. The first half or so is applicable to life in general I feel, but the second half gets more into types of terrain and such which didn't particularly interest me at this time in my life. But who knows about tomorrow?
A little repetitive, but glad I read it!

"Muumipeikko ja pyrstötähti"

En lapsena lukenut muumikirjoja, mutta nyt luin. Todella kiva vertailla vanhaan animaatioelokuvaan. Yliopisto-opiskelijana tykkään jotenkin eritoten siitä miten akateemikkoja herjataan. Hahmoista Niisku & Niiskuneiti olivat lempparit tässä kirjassa.

Super fanfic-y with the emotional dramatics and the writing style, but I teared up like 7 times so I'm not complaining. I was into the pack and supporting cast, but the main couple wasn't really for me. Certain characters needed more screentime. 100% enjoyed the book.

"Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell" 📚💙 #booksky

Classically styled yet easy to read, great humor, creepy undertones - what an interesting & long book. I really enjoyed it. I think the world & the lore are absolutely marvelous. If the sequel ever comes out I'll run to the bookstore for a copy.

"Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" 📚💙 #booksky

I don't usually read history books, but I think I will in the future. This book affected me greatly. It manages to be very easy to follow despite the amount of information it's getting across. I'll look more into modern day indigenous issues ASAP.

"Murder on the Orient Express" #booksky 💙📚

To be clear, I am NOT a detective story reader, but wow. This book was great. Perfect length, memorable characters, satisfying ending. The clues I picked up on mattered (but not always how I thought they would)! I had so much fun binging this today.

"Homo Faber" 💙📚 #booksky

Atmospheric prose is wonderful in this book, and the twist in the story has an emotional impact - but I'm very tired of reading complaints about the emptiness of modern life. In my opinion the 'classical literature' department is oversaturated with this theme.

"The Hero of Ages" 💙📚 #booksky

No spoilers, but didn't like HOW we got to the ending. I've heard sm good about this book. Like "oh it wraps up things perfectly, so satisfying", but uh... Hmm. Oh it wraps things up alright. I just didn't know they meant it like THAT.

It's still a good book.

The first "Murderbot Diaries" book. Different to what I was expecting, but short and enjoyable. It took me half the length of the book to differentiate the cast members from each other - I'm a bit peeved if I have to learn a new cast for the next book.
Liked it!

I read books 1-3 in high school I think, but re-reading the series now. I like the characters, but the action/troubles they run into are a little repetitive. I like all the gods, and the humor sometimes makes me chuckle. I want more time at the camp itself.

"Royal Assasssin" - Robin Hobb #booksky 💙📚

I love Robin Hobb's style, the pacing feels just right. It's a sign of great writing that the supporting characters feel good and likable even when they're "against" the protagonist in some ways. Didn't cry, but man I still felt the ending.

"A Court of Frost and Starlight" #booksky 💙📚

I liked some minor details, but Tamlin gets shat on all the time and it annoys me. I think the IC are super hypocritical about him & poor Lucien. I just want Tamlin (or Feyre & Rhysand) to die at this point. There are other logical problems too.

Side stories make this book feel super long at times, but it's still an enjoyable read. Great atmosphere, memorable characters. IDK why but I liked the random Lucy & Jules romance, it was a wholesome interlude. Never seen the movie, but am inspired to now.

"Fahrenheit 451" 💙📚 #booksky

This book resonated with me whenever it talked about instant gratification in our culture. My rotten internet brain felt a little bit called out at times, which is good. I enjoyed many of the monologues. I should re-read it sometime with more care.

I'd recommend it.

"A Court of Wings and Ruin" #booksky 📚💙

Hated ACOMAF, and the beginning of this book has the same vibe, so I thought this was going to be a 0/5 as well. However, when the MC stops ruining the lives of innocent people, the book improves a bit. The writing & structure are still kinda ass.

Drizzt #3. A weird book to finish the trilogy, the first half was boring because it was just Drizzt thinking or fighting, and I think the action scenes in these books are "meh". Dumb/obsessive antagonist lol. However, I still like the books and will continue.

The couple wasn't that interesting, but the ending is very satisfying despite the cartoonish nature of it. Book #3 offered what I expect from a Bridgerton story, including the couple wanting to murder each other. I still find that weird.

Not bad, but more of a filler episode. Some of the mysteries keep building up but nothing really gets solved per say, besides whatever's going on with the Tribe. I feel bad for them. They can't seem to do anything for themselves. Let them move out.

Historical inaccuracies aside, what a well-structured and researched story. Only went into the book because I like primal settings, but set up plots pay off regularly and satisfyingly. I didn't get very emotional, but I was very invested. Will read #2.
