Based in Hong Kong🇭🇰. I lurk, mostly. Interested in disability advocacy, animals, history, technology, puns and American and Chinese politics. Reading on Bluesky is my way of understanding human foibles. I don’t bite.
And another on Carousell. Calm down, HK.

Wow, I’m sorry. His snark and minimizing and reframing of the point you were trying to make as a criticism of you is really not on. Does he do this often? I mean… once is enough. I’m sorry. It can’t feel good. Sigh.

I’ll be honest and say I had to mute his name for a bit because my feed was becoming exclusively about him and nothing else. It was a little jarring!

Something arty, like paintjam or an introduction to linocutting class? You don’t necessarily have to be artistic to still enjoy these activities! (I’m on a quest to make IRL adult friends too, so good luck with yours!)

Growing up, we had one of those Underwood cast iron typewriters but my mother had to get rid of it while I was away in grad school… that’s a regret of mine. But those things are huge and I wouldn’t have the space for it now anyway.

Out of curiosity, do you have one? I’ve currently got a 1950s Underwood 310, which is nothing to look at but works well. It used to belong to a chef working on a P&O liner that (presumably) docked in Hong Kong sometimes. I’m trying to bring home a second typewriter! (One can never have too many…)

One bad apple, right? *massive sigh* 😮‍💨

I need to rewatch it too. And yeah… I cannot count the times I had to give up on art/tv show/music/books because it’s tainted by the artist. I get the disappointment but the choice is a no-brainer.

It dismays me how often I see that “separate art from the artist” idea bandied about as some sort of absolution or excuse for problematic behaviour or outright abuse by said artist. One of the reasons why I loved Nanette so much. Gadsby articulated it in a way I never could. Have you seen it?

As someone who also left academia for similar reasons, I applaud you and wish you the best!

Look: The thing you need to understand about genAI is that every Next Big SV Thing of the last 15 years—NFTs, Web3, Metaverse, VR—has been utterly rejected by the market and the tech grifters know this is their last chance, no more. That’s why there is an apocalyptic level of capital invested in it.

I’m almost afraid to ask… May I know the film so I can know to avoid it?

Welcome back!

This is not a recommendation really, because I’m sure it won’t be archival, but in a pinch, cooked rice smooshed up makes for a good glue stick-like adhesive.
