I understood what you meant, and yes, we're agreeing. I just meant that I think the two parts are particularly strongly intertwined in Spontaneous (and very much to the film's benefit).

Yes, but I also think horror is very much part of the romance - it's the catalyst that makes them act. It's romance because of (or perhaps to spite) the horror.

And yes, the allegory is very well done.

Amusing anecdotes aside, this is a really shitty way to treat students.

After a week of this, with 90% achieved a different way every day, the teacher conceded defeat, the detentions stopped, and my final mark was 90%. I think by that point he suspected I was doing it deliberately, and that it was now me giving him a detention each day.

The thing is, though, it wasn't the same 90%. Each time I'd fix one of my previous mistakes, but also make a new mistake with something I'd previously got right.

So the next day, while my fellow detainees got the 100% that earned their freedom, I got 90% again, and another detention for the following day. Next day, 90% again, another detention.
