I wonder if some of the reason it works for me is it came out the winter after we moved back from the USA, so when I was most blurry about which cultural things were USA and which were UK 🤔

my abiding memory of him is staying with him for a few days on a childhood family summer holiday. flat was nowhere near big enough, books stacked up against all the walls, stayed up late every night and ate snails and had red wine foisted upon us all
