100%. Makes no sense to consider banning social media for under 16s, but not print media for the over 60s.

I thought I was aware of most of the ways brexit has damaged our country, but this is a new one to add to the list 😥

Halloween on the other hand is to be encouraged as since its adoption it has delayed the onslaught of Christmas which used to be everywhere from late September. For similar reasons we should encourage Thanksgiving as that will delay it even more.

When a newly elected government takes over from a batshit crazy one, it has the opportunity to make things better. By ruling out rejoining the single market and customs union he is simply continuing the problem of damaging tory policy.

Folks who are ambivalent about mandated government ID are clearly not part of a persecuted minority.

If you think that cats have keepers, you've vastly misread the situation and your cat is laughing at you

A male security guard was in a women's toilet harassing a woman because *she* didn't meet *his* standard of femininity. Championed by the likes of Rowling, legitimised by the Supreme Court, this is how men will enforce what women should look like. At its core, transphobia is just pure misogyny.

Thought this was a post about the TV show Six Feet Under when I scrolled past it. One of the best bits of telly ever by the way, in case you need a recommendation

An estate agent holds the deal together during the three months between offer acceptance and completion whilst both parties go through various phases of second thoughts and stupid posturing triggered by surveys, solicitors, banks, new properties to market, economic changes, and general twattery

"Authorities demanded women prove themselves to have met approved levels of womanlyness" will make it to the history books for sure. Will be in the same chapter as "in the US, men legislated what women could and couldn't do to their bodies".

Those secondary doors destroy the spellbinding thrill of being on the worlds oldest underground system, shut out the sounds and smells of the engineering, and make it feel like you're on a sanitised monorail between airport terminals. The new Elizabeth Line is absolutely soulless because of it

The pertinent fact in this is that Dyson didn't manufacture ventilators, and yet they got the call. This along with the £37bn track and trace system, and the unusable PPE contracts all point to one thing

The real problem is that Americans consciously voted for this. He was in for four years previously so they knew exactly what they were going to get with him, and Project 2025 was clear on the agenda. Trump and his aims are shocking, but the support he enjoys is the really frightening bit.

Remembering that Henry Ford had his own newspaper (The Dearborn Independent) in which he published antisemitic articles and forced all Ford dealerships to carry the paper thus using his industrial power and purchased media platform to spread his own personal brand of hatred. History, eh

Probably because he won the popular vote and both chambers in the election. Plus he was in office for 4 years previously so no one can say they weren't aware of what he was like and what he was going to do. The American democracy system knowingly voted for this

Yes, but it's exceptional for the reasons I stated above

It really isn't. Most people can't afford a year's rent up front, and the market won't tolerate it as proven by the fact you haven't paid a year's rent up front and the only people likely to are those that won't pass referencing.

If you truly believe that the private rental sector is a government conspiracy then I can understand where your uninformed but passionatly held views are coming from. Good luck to you mate, but I'm out

Also, living density is lower in owner occupied than rented accommodation so if in the world you aspire to where rented accommodation no longer exists, there would be fewer homes rather than more, further restricting supply.
January 15, 2025 at 7:46 AM
Housing supply is limited by successive governments failing to build what they promised, second homes sitting empty, and property stock being used for temporary secondary accommodation like AirB&B, and owner occupiers tending to keep larger properties rather than downsizing when families move out
