Why didn't you lift it onto the water? They're as placid as can be in the hand...I found this juv in the woods and drove it back to it's pond in my car boot...

I don't think this will be a Waxwing winter. In proper years I'd have seen some by now locally. They always arrive between Halloween and Bonfire night... watch this space...🤔

Found another, from Newbiggin, that's 5... also my first in note form, at Druridge...I'm glad to see my drawing has improved since then! A lesson for those who say they can't draw...🙂

Back in August I hoped that days South wind wouldn't stick til November. Well, it did, making this autumn pretty near the bottom of the league. Now, as winter starts, no doubt it will be a mild, wet and windy one.. 🤔

Compare the two together. CS with neatly scalloped upper parts obviously white supercillium with darker border. Dunlin, bland plain face other than darker lores.

24/10/99 the 2nd ( I think?) Black faced Bunting for Britain spent one afternoon in weeds behind Woodhorn Church, Newbiggin. Found by the late great Jimmy Steele.

Around the #LocalPatch today, 3 YBWs, a very late Willow Warbler, 2 Willow Tit, Woodcock, 6 Little Gulls, 9 Whooper Swans, 145 Pinkfeet, 18 Crossbills, 18 Siskins, 11 Redpolls, drake Pintail. Not bad...except for my dire photos.
