Asst Prof of English, Orioles and Caps fan, enjoys dogs and ice cream, and constantly loses arguments to my kiddos.
That’s definitely one way to put it. Looks like this year will bring more editorial nonsense from the Washington Post. I guess I don’t get it.

What’s getting lost in this whole pseudo white Christian victimhood discourse is that graduate students do so much work for R1 universities, yet they are horribly under appreciated and constantly shit on by the institution.

OU has placed a graduate student instructor on leave after a student publicly contested a grade and filed an illegal discrimination claim after receiving a failing grade on an essay

Why can’t The Washington Post just come out and say what’s happening, instead of equivocating behind passive and misleading language. The headline is trumped (eh?) by the summary with this one.

I still don’t get how this is a kid’s song, other than, you know, a kid dies in it.

There has been a rush among centrists like Gavin Newsom and Ezra Klein to brush over the hateful life of Charlie Kirk and valorize the man.

Let me be clear, killing Charlie Kirk was wrong and abhorrent.

We must condemn murder without sanitizing a man who built his empire on hate.

My latest piece.
We Must Not Posthumously Sanitize Charlie Kirk's Hateful Life
Influential anti-LGBTQ+ activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated on Wednesday. While condemning violence is something most can get behind, sanitization of his hate has gone too far.

Yeah, it’s much easier if 98% of the population works to make the top 2% wealthier. Got it.
White House official Lindsey Halligan on the Smithsonian: "The president wants to see more positivity and more patriotism ... 98% of the population should not be be forced to accommodate or adjust their morals to make less than 2% of the population comfortable."

Wow. This is really well written.
I loved @vermontgmg.bsky.social's latest piece so much that I asked if I could republish it on The Handbasket and he so generously said yes.

If you haven't read it yet, please do. It's essential:

A lawyer for George Mason University President Gregory Washington told the board the leader had done nothing unlawful and would not apologize for his diversity, equity and inclusion policies, despite a call from the Education Department to do so.

The Education Department had found last week that GMU had discriminated in hiring. A proposed resolution called for GMU President Gregory Washington to publicly apologize.

There’s “a lot of rhetoric that portrays the drive for equal opportunity as a form of reverse discrimination,” writes David Holt, Oklahoma City’s mayor. “Sometimes this rhetoric is cloaked in patriotism, but it is really just repackaged bigotry, misogyny and racism.”
Opinion | I’m a Red-State Mayor Who Knows the Value of Diversity
In Oklahoma City we’re not put off by rhetoric about reverse discrimination that attacks equal opportunity and celebrations of our residents’ unique identities.
