If by shoes you mean sneakers, I’d guess maybe it’s because more people are willing to pay $300+ for boots than shoes.

Wheat-per-bushel prices wholesale vary, but over the last 20 years, between a $3-10 per bushel range, so a third of that minimum wage worker's paycheck ($106) is going to buy ~15 bushels a week (405kg, 1.35 million calories, 17 times what Cratchet is buying).

People are using it on various Canadian subreddits too. Definitely becoming part of certain folks vocabulary. It’s used very similarly woke–hand wave away stuff they don’t like.
