Historical film research doesn't pair well with AI. Plus, primary sources are really cool. If you're researching film history for your script, I recommend Lantern, @archive.org, ProQuest, and Copyright records. #hollywoodhistory #filmhistory #scriptsky

Actual footage of the harpist. According to forums, her name was Maryce R. Pickering, but I haven't verified that info.

While watching I Love Lucy, I noticed a female harpist in Ricky's band. I googled her, and this is what Google AI had to say... 🤦🏻‍♀️ Don't rely on AI, kids. #scriptsky #filmsky #hollywoodhistory

My husband bought a KPop Demon Hunters shirt in the wrong size. I know I'm preachin' to the choir. It's MINE while he gets a size higher. Derpy is the only one for me. 😍

Step five: make it yours
When you research a lost film, you rarely find the full script (or scenario). Sometimes you’ll find snippets of dialogue or stills from the film. No matter what you discover, remember: your script does not need to be a duplicate of the original film. Make it your own!

Step four: trust your gut
Don't get stuck debating your next project. Starting and finishing a project doesn’t mean you’ve dismissed all the other interesting ideas forever. Keep track of your other ideas so that you can work on them later.

Step three: narrow your scope
You don't need hundreds of irrelevant search results. Surrounding a key phrase with quotation marks will refine your results to items with an exact phrase.

Step two: start the car
Now that you know what you want to write about, you can start your search. For the most detailed information about a movie’s plot and its characters, you’ll need to look at primary sources.

Step one: set your sights
Make a list of relevant keywords for titles and plot synopses. If you want to focus on a specific filmmaker, make a list of their production companies and collaborators.  You'll need this information when you start your research.

This week, I’m sharing how to find a lost film that you can adapt into a screenplay. Yes, I know the word “lost” implies that it’s basically dust and completely unfindable. However, “lost” is a bit of a misnomer. #scriptsky
