if your literary skills are top notch you'd understand that he didn't state a dislike for her work product
November 14, 2025 at 9:39 PM
i don't think eoin is even stating a dislike for her work, he dislikes her use of the word "disappeared" to refer to getting a 72-hour time out, even if it was bullshit
November 14, 2025 at 4:24 PM
then your objection lacks clarity
November 13, 2025 at 11:37 PM
oh dang i didn't know you were in the emails
November 13, 2025 at 11:23 PM

this is the divide i'm trying to get to the core of. i'm under no delusions about media bias. you're the one who said there was an objective criteria to which news outlets are more facts based, and that objective criteria is determined by a marketing company
November 13, 2025 at 11:04 PM
is the editor of the new york times magically an objective arbiter of facts
November 13, 2025 at 11:03 PM
why is all of this coming as a shock to you
November 13, 2025 at 11:03 PM
yeah that's the primary source of where i hear about stuff for the first time, but that's not the last source for anything because like you said (and i agree) they aren't doing their own reporting on anything
November 13, 2025 at 11:02 PM
they don't outline anything as objective truth though, nor would i ever think they have any access to objective truth. that's what i'm (still) trying to convey to you
November 13, 2025 at 11:01 PM
i do like PBS news hour quite a lot though
November 13, 2025 at 10:59 PM
that's just the thing, i don't have a "main news source" because any story i'm interested in hearing about i'll read ten or twelve articles before considering myself informed. i just like the majority report because they highlight stories that interest me, mostly about the supreme court
November 13, 2025 at 10:59 PM
you just think "this outlet posts stories i like, so it must be good at dealing out objective facts" but that's not how it works. at all. and it's dangerous to think this way.
November 13, 2025 at 10:58 PM
i'm not certain why you have this built up in your head that any news story could be objective. the wording itself is based on an opinion. the decision to tell one part of a story but not a second part is based on an opinion. the emphasis on certain aspects over others is entirely opinion.
November 13, 2025 at 10:57 PM
the point i've been trying my hardest to convey to you is that the things you think of as objective are not objective, and you keep doing it.
November 13, 2025 at 10:55 PM
the difference is you think the editor of the new york times isn't hiding stories from you because of their many pulitzers, but this is patently untrue given the decision to hold the 2004 NSA warrantless wiretapping story. that decision in itself is a bias. as is the decision to run any story.
November 13, 2025 at 10:55 PM
this is why it's silly to insist any major outlet is "objectively" better to handle any specific story. they're all going to give their perspective on it. and you sort of amalgamate those perspectives and it gives you a better understanding of their internal biases
November 13, 2025 at 10:47 PM
again this is all subjective, but their contention is usually that there is a larger story to be told than the one being told by those outlets. but sometimes it's that they're actually publishing outright lies, as they did in their story Screams Without Words
November 13, 2025 at 10:45 PM
all the way back to the holocaust, they've been more or less the propaganda arm of the american government. israel-palestine is simply the latest effort in that neverending propaganda war.
November 13, 2025 at 10:41 PM
it's important to acknowledge the bizarre editorial decisions throughout recent years (like employing Judith Miller at all, and spiking the story about warrantless wiretapping by the NSA before the 2004 election), but also understand their broader place as defenders of american hegemony full stop
November 13, 2025 at 10:39 PM
they mostly rely on reporting from other sources, including david dayen's outlet The American Prospect, or from ryan grim at The Intercept. but also mostly just commentary on the state of poor journalism out of the bigger sources like all the cable channels and the washington post/nytimes
November 13, 2025 at 10:34 PM
did you read the article from the new york times titled Screams Without Words alleging hamas mass rapes on october 7?
November 13, 2025 at 10:20 PM
primarily the majority report, but also npr/bbc/al jazeera/reuters. most of the time when a story breaks i try to get multiple outlets reporting of it to get a better picture from across the spectrum
November 13, 2025 at 10:11 PM
so what was your opinion on the new york times handling of everything from october 7, 2023 until roughly today
