Agreed, though there’s probably less churn amongst those making personal contributions over £2k (or sacrificing the equivalent). Legislation might need writing carefully ….

Interesting question! Presumably firms will have to ‘register’ salary sacrifice schemes?

Thanks @felicityhannah.bsky.social . We were looking for a way to combine the economic necessity of longer working with a material mitigation for those hardest hit. Probably needs both a guarantee for those who reach pension age and die soon after, and those who pay in but never get a pension.

Thanks Stuart, that’s kind! I’m adding a new video every week so hopefully it will build up to a decent resource over time

Yes, I’m not suggesting that MPs shouldn’t help. I’m saying that MPs need to remember that this is not the whole job.

I certainly agree that insight into individual cases is very helpful, but beyond a certain point you risk as a result not doing the thing that only / mainly you can do

My experience (albeit 10 years out of date) is that it’s tempting to prioritise casework as you help specific individuals (and help get re-elected) over the long haul of getting change at Westminster. It’s easier to treat the symptom than the cause!

So sorry to hear this news. Ed was such a colourful personality and added greatly to the diversity of thought at IFS. He leaves a legacy and will be sadly missed.

Agreed - personally I think the chance of a big cut in the cap on lifetime lump sums without transitional protections is close to zero!

TBF, I don’t think they are doing any kite flying. I think the media do it all for them. And unless they start ruling things out (in which case the challenge is ‘you didn’t rule out Y so you must be going to do Y) then there’s not much they can do, short of a 5 year promise to leave things alone

Thanks for sharing, that’s a really thought-provoking article. It’s given me the idea for a bit of research!
