Hi @stephenkb.bsky.social I enjoy your contributions on BlueSky, but wondered about this line. Today, most PC recipients are on the old state pension system, but the new system is designed to reduce PC numbers. DWP project *falling* caseloads every year to 2030. (I know you're talking longer term)

DWP statistics published today contain the rather shocking revelation that they are underpaying six in one hundred state pension claims, and this is up on last year. Given that they've spent the last four years fixing errors on over 100,000 widows, married women and over 80s, that's quite something!

Distributional analysis just published shows *average* cash losses of £200-£300 year from welfare changes for most of poorest half of population. But as many are unaffected, those who will lose are on average losing a lot more than this:

Reading the Employment White Paper today, what is striking is the very slow pace of reform of disability benefits. If we get a Green Paper in Spring 2025, that may mean firm proposals in 2026, legislation in 2027, phased implementation in 2028 or 2029 - unlikely to save much in this Parliament.
