The words “changing world” come up a lot in these reviews, and - what do you know? - the whole world *did* change in the last year, and not for the better. I’m glad these songs haven’t buckled under the strain yet. I feel the same way about Marian and John’s songs too.

Folks wrote some wonderful things about ADJUSTED and included it on a few “best of 2024” lists. I still love the old-school music review so this really delighted me. c/o @rainbowrodeo.bsky.social @varioussmallflames.bsky.social @chirpradio.org @tonybreed.bsky.social @countryuniverse.net.

I can market/sell MYSELF as a freelancer, so I know I’m capable of it! But not the SONGS, their hands are soft and they should never work a day of their life, I work so they don’t have to, etc. Is all this SMART? I do not know

I want my songs to be heard and can get obsessive about that, but no part of me will ever care if they make $$$. Meanwhile when I need money I can get obsessive about finding gig work, letting the dopamine drive push the $$$ counter up. But these parts of my brain have never met one another.

I thought becoming a full-time musician might trick me into treating my songs like a product and motivate me to sell it more, but that… did not happen. I just have way less money and way more time now to make stuff I think should be (and basically is) free lol

Or two more that are not the precise vibe you described but adjacent to it: BLUE COLLAR, my favorite Paul Schrader, a perfectly sweaty and surprisingly funny union drama, and NETWORK if you want 70s political satire with a few thriller (and every other genre) elements thrown in

I was recently the last person in the world to see ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, and it's a sacred text for a reason: some scenes give you that perfect "why on earth am I so scared watching a Watergate movie" fight or flight feeling. +Robert Redford at his very hottest

Hearing country people connect with my music makes my day. I've got a lot of city-mouse/country-mouse impostor syndrome, even though on Thanksgiving a pony and a horse strolled through my mom's yard after holding up traffic on the state highway for a few minutes.

Also never shared this review, from @rainbowrodeo.bsky.social's inimitable @rachelcholst.bsky.social "With meditative care, Slagg invites us to glide through atmospheric songs about death, boredom, and beauty..."

Also, my song "The Newest Soil" got a lovely write-up in one of my favorite weird-folk blogs. If you only ever hear one of my songs, you should probably make it this one.

Third single Indigo Bunting is a psych-folk jam about a little blue bird, and how nobody's from anywhere anymore
