The dynamic being overlooked here is that this is a movement that has been working toward this for *decades*. They will not stop this assault unless they are stopped. I have no idea how that happens, but they will continue trying to destroy democracy after DJT is gone.

😢 I grew up in the America Arendt describes here.
N 1949, the German historian and political philosopher Hannah Arendt visited Europe for the first time since fleeing to America during the war. A year later, she wrote an analysis of what she called "the aftermath of Nazi rule." She found the Old World lacking in civic maturity and commitment compared with her new home, the then-booming United States, noting that "the peoples of Western Europe have developed the habit of blaming their misfortunes on some force out of their reach." She believed that her adopted country, by comparison, enjoyed a kind of clarity of public vision: "With the possible exception of the Scandinavians," she wrote, "no European citizenry has the political maturity of Americans, for whom a certain amount of responsibility, i.e., of moderation in the pursuit of self-interest, is almost a matter of course." Arendt wasn't celebrating a perfect America; rather, she was lauding a people who approached political life with an adult sensibility and a reserve of self-control.

Pritzker, incidentally, has an immediate fear: "I am very afraid that this is going to end up in a clash between our law enforcement and federal law enforcement because federal law enforcement is breaking the law," he said. "And what do you do if you're a local law-enforcement official, local police officer, Chicago police officer? What do you do when someone right in front of you is breaking the law? You're supposed to arrest them. So I think something really dangerous and terrible could happen."

It’s been above freezing, but has been snowing all day. My eldest son is a road maintenance worker and sent this pic. He says driving a snow plow is the best part of the job…

Berkshire moving into a cash position? Maybe the increasingly voiced concern re a huge (AI-fueled) bubble in equities isn’t baseless.
Berkshire Hathaway reported selling about $12.5bn of stock and buying $6.4bn in the last quarter. Since late 2022 Warren Buffett's firm has sold roughly $212bn worth of shares, while purchasing only $34bn. Mr Buffett, who plans to step down at the end of this year, seems to think equities are overpriced. He looks set to leave his successor, Greg Abel, a record cash hoard of more than $350bn.
