The so-called “farmers depression” started in the early 1920s and lasted till the early1930s. I’ve seen from the historical record where lots of small towns got much smaller as working folks went to cities to find work.

I recall being in a Chaplin battlefield, but I could have sworn it was earlier, so either a different war or my memory for decades is off. Chaplin did a lot we can shake our finger at,but imho pathos isn’t one of those things.
