Will Trump achieve the REP DREAM AND FINALLY KILL SS?

"Social Security is clearly in Trump’s crosshairs. He is not just breaking a campaign promise not 2 touch Social Security, he seems 2 be engineering its funeral"

George Bernard Shaw quipped that if you lined up every economist, they would never reach a conclusion. Pshaw has always been my response to this. In August Donald Trump decisively proved Shaw wrong.

My most recent publication in the @washspectator.bsky.social on how #Trump is seeking to kill #SocialSecurity by destroying data and accumulating power over independent institutions. Enjoy. washingtonspectator.org/signs-of-dan...

You will be greatly missed! Hope you keep on writing about economics. You excel at making economic ideas understandable to a general audience.

The show can go on. If people boycott other CBS shows, and write letters of complaint, CBS may decide to recompute whether it makes sense to get rid of #Colbert
Remember Stephen Colbert, who looked at corruption and called it what it was, right up until they took his microphone away.

The show must go on, they say. But sometimes, the show just ends.

And journalism, like that of @nathantankus.bsky.social is a public good, something that benefits everyone and that it is cheaper and easier to provide with public support.
People who say this stuff have no idea what its like to build a media outlet from scratch. Journalism needs public money to exist in the quantities and quality that the public needs.
As more journalists are driven out of their jobs, I keep hearing this drumbeat of "it's ok -- they can start their own newsletter or publication." Some can. But becoming your own business is a huge job, and will eliminate many talented reporters from the public sphere. Here's why. (1/5)
