2/ But 50 years isn’t enough. Congress still blocks our policies and interferes when it serves their agenda. DC residents pay the highest rate in federal taxes, serve in the military, and contribute to this country—but we’re denied the full rights of citizenship.

🧵1/ Tonight we celebrate 50 years of home rule. DC leads in early childhood education, boasts a AAA credit rating, and we have fully funded public pensions. We’ve proven that we can govern ourselves—and we do it better than most states.
