Oh thank god, the Easter chocs are here...thought I'd missed them!

I forgot how agonising waiting for submission news was...ugh.

Feeling energetic, might go caving this weekend.

Something broke in my brain and now I can only read "diced onions" as "dick 'ed onions"...

No time, no materials, no appropriate clothing bits...time to ADHD the shit out of this Halloween costume! And yes, I know it's been and gone :P

One of our 'Happy Halloween' signs broke and now reads 'Happy Hallowee', so it has been relocated to the bathroom!

To everyone heading to, or already at, World Fantasy, I miss you all so much! I hope I get to see you all somewhere else, sometime soon, in somewhat writery circumstances 💚✍️

Playing Wolfenstein: New Order and it's extra cathartic nowadays for some strange reason...

New glue gun and craft knives...*happy noises mixed with new cuts and burn screams*

To clarify my last post, those are payments from the "nice" publishing people, who don't just expect you to write stuff for exposure...gee thanks! I will never be this cheap :p

£15 for 7,000 words, £2.44 for 5,000 words, £7.50 for 6,000 words...I'm at a loss for (very cheap) words.

Is anyone on any decent writing forums anymore? I used to be on Writing Magazine's TalkBack, many moons ago, but I don't know if it exists at the moment (it could just be down due to the current internet fuckery)

Trying real hard to just scan the 'payment' info and not the 'theme' of anthologies, lest I be tempted to follow up on an intriguing idea with only a 'contributor's copy' and fiver to show for it.

From not writing in years to a 2,000 word story submitted to a library competition, a 4,000 word story almost ready to be submitted to an antho, and a 2,000 word magazine competition entry WIP...nae bad!

Well, that explains today! So I...succeeded in failing?

A great article from Rachel, who really understands the heart and soul of Dad’s work.

2/2 Half the anthos are "Yeah, we'll wang a 50p coin at your head if you're lucky enough to give us everlasting rights to your hard work", and the others are "Oh, a new submission? That's loads of money...which you'll pay us to submit your work".

1/2 Any of my horror peeps know of any open anthos? Writing for this comp has ignited...well, less 'ignited the flame' and more 'rummaged around in a junk drawer, found that weird blocky, half broken candle you keep for emergencies, and whipped it out thinking I might use this soon'.

We took Monster to the park yesterday, and she ended up playing with a few kids she'd never met before. I dadded and joked and pushed swings, and when the other kids left I got a "Bye, funny man!" from the one Monster's age. Even my cynical heart melted a little bit.

41 so far has been watching messed up horror films and figuring out what exercise to do so that sitting on the floor doesn't destroy my bones...
