Got a couple of miniature watercolour painting sets that I saw advertised on Instagram, as I thought my wife and I could combine competitive painting with a lovely day out. The best work of art either of us will see today will definitely be the back of the pack of paints…!

Spotted on one of our wildlife cameras at Cow Close Farm - a Tawny Owl! One of my favourite jobs is checking the footage that has been captured each week. #wildandother #rewilding

In London and starting my day with a coffee at Social Bite on The Strand. There is a lot of awful stuff happening in the world, but there is some beautiful stuff happening in this little coffee shop. #socialbite #socent #buysocial

It’s a day on the farm today. Been checking on the newly planted trees. 300 of them altogether. We’re creating new woodland through natural regeneration and by planting mixed native species where natural processes will take a while to reach.

And here’s a badger crossing another part of the stream. We created a ‘leaky dam’ at this point - to mimic what a beaver might have done - to create a slower, wider pool of water which animals and birds like to drink from or bathe in. #wildandother #rewilding #cowclosefarm

We have four motion activated cameras on Cow Close Farm so that we can see what the wildlife is up to and how things change over time. Always one of my favourite jobs to check the footage. Here’s a hare athletically leaping over the stream…

Cold day on the farm today but wonderful to have such beautiful surroundings and to see what happens in, on, under and over the land during the changing seasons. #cowclosefarm #wildandother

In London for a meeting this afternoon and working in a coffee shop until then. Spotted ‘Fair Shot’ on Instagram - a social enterprise providing training for young adults with a learning disability, near Covent Garden. Decided to check it out and am very pleased I did! #socent #buysocial

Some of the books I’ve read and really enjoyed this year. Our eldest son is doing geography A Level and introducing him to @dannydorling.bsky.social’s writing may be one of the most important things I’ve done this year! Loved @elizabetholdfield.bsky.social’s book and accompanying podcast episodes.

Even in mid-December nature still finds ways to be surprising and beautiful. This tiny wonder is growing on a dry stone wall at Cow Close Farm.

Always aim to buy from or partner with social enterprises at Wild & Other. This is a team from Wildscapes CIC expertly digging a wildlife pond at Cow Close Farm. Positive social and environmental impact at the heart of what we do. #buysocial #socent

We now have sheep on Cow Close Farm! A neighbouring farmer is helping us out with some conservation grazing by these Dorset Horn sheep - a rare breed.
