Now reading guards guards with my 9 year old. We had a long discussion about this paragraph…

Hi Robin. Loved IMC and recently introduced my 9 year old to it, he now loves it too. It’ll remain a people’s favourite and there are many more still to discover it. New doors will open! And in the mean time the BBC should remember this little statue and inscription outside their front door

There’s a statue commemorating its invention at the university. On the old UMIST campus. It was there before they named a building after Turing. Priorities!

Brummie and Manc arguing over which city has the honour of being crowned England’s second city. Brummie understandably says ‘Birmingham’, Manc says ‘London’.

Also a proud manc here… arguably the greatest invention to ever come out of Manchester, a close second is the worlds first stored program computer, but pah what’s that ever done for anyone!

Dibblercoin. If it doesn’t already exist we should mint some.

As ever he already has you covered on crypto and crypto bros. From Reaper Man. Reading with my 9 year old atm. You know CMOT would now be the ‘richest’ man in Ankh Morpork. #gnu

And you have to wonder if this will lead to a form of cultural stagnation where clicks count for everything. No new ideas are generated just regurgitated old ones. Through AI slop feeding off itself into the mix and rage bait and I think you have a toxic timebomb.

The counter to this is he (and friends) don’t have favourite bands as we did. They all listen to their own music as it is all accessible. Whilst it’s great to share my music with him, he isn’t exposed to anything new and his playlist is a facsimile of mine. Multiply this out to other areas of life!

This summer I’ve seen my 9 year old and his friends (all with no phones and limited net access) have the same shared experiences, movie related. And the ‘grownups’ know about these too. First time in a while I can remember a shared cultural experience, and they’ll probably be his first.
