I am a political theorist and independent scholar dedicated to analyzing the origins of fascism. My background is in philosophy and political science. My work focuses on the tension between authoritarian governments and individual liberty.
For the last six months I’ve been writing a book as a form of therapy, to keep myself from having to accept the lies and hate coming from in Washington. Instead of reacting to each outlandish headline I’ve been systematically comparing Trump’s behavior to historical and contemporary fascists.

Fascism is stoked by fear. Fascist leaders exploit deep seated, emotionally charged fears. They exploit racial hatred, fear of violent crime, fear of minorities and fear of otherness. They appeal to tradition by pretending things were better in the past.
