I just started reading Bear by Julia Phillips and I heard season 4 of The Bear has started so I’m officially in my ursa era 🐻

Summer TBR pile is far too ambitious but I like a challenge.

Now that it’s consistently warm, it’s officially summer reading season!

I’ve just finished On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous which is, in itself, full of gorgeous poetic prose.

I’m pulling together a summer TBR pile. What are you reading this summer?

I’ll share my pile if you share yours!

There is no singular Black experience and this is one of the reasons it’s important to read widely. Each of these 28 books by Black authors is compelling and unique and 100% worth picking up not just during #blackhistorymonth but on any day of any year.

Who are your favourite Black authors?

I’m calling it on my January 2025 reads. (Btw, I adore @thestorygraph.com cover collages).

Best read: Sandwich
Runner-up: The Rachel Incident
Most compelling: Onyx Storm
Most surprising: Lula Dean’s Library of Banned Books
Most charming: The Mortal and Immortal Life of the Girl from Milan

I cracked the cover of my fourth (and final) French notebook since September. Je me prépare à passer les examens de français, mais j’aimerais continuer à apprendre la langue pour toujours! It’s been an exhausting, challenging, and rewarding experience.

Last year I was fortunate enough to make the cut for the 2025 Central Avenue poetry anthology (coming out this April). 🤞 I make out as well the second time!

It’s COLD out there! 🥶

In case you haven’t noticed, I read my fair share of books in a year. I’m currently working my way through this assortment of 25 books in 2025, starting with Domenico Starnone’s The Mortal and Immortal Life of the Girl From Milan. #booksky #amreading

Disappearing into Onyx Storm for the foreseeable future.

I went with The Rachel Incident first and it did not disappoint. I loved the storytelling style and, despite their flaws, I loved the characters and their flawed relationships, too. 4.5 ⭐️

How I do birthday shopping. Just look at this marvellous book stack.

Now to decide which one is up first 🤔

This one was more aggravating than a Lego build 4x its size but it was totally worth it (or at least it is in the eyes of my 3.5yo).

As the Chief Lego Architect of my house, I’ve gotten myself well and truly into it this time.

It’s the time of year when I can’t commit to a single book. I can, however, commit to the conviction that both of these books are legitimately gorgeous and I’m enjoying each as I erratically try to close out my 2024 year in reading.

One of my favourite people gifted me a book embosser. Shall I spend the holidays embossing every book on my shelf?

Signed,

@lproulx.bsky.social gifted me This Is How You Lose The Time War and wow, am I lucky! The poetic language was a pleasant surprise. It is, itself, a love letter to letter writing. And at the same time, it’s a critique on the bonds of war, set in the most magnificent times and places.

Just sitting here, with freshly red hair, matching the most beautiful book cover ever.

Who’s read Orbital? I’m about 70% finished and it’s an astonishingly beautiful book. It will definitely be making my top 10 of 2024 list.

Each holiday season I work my way through as many cheesy Christmas movies as I can. This season’s winner so far is Hot Frosty. It’s utterly absurd, features a reverse Pretty Woman makeover, and Dustin Milligan is as endearingly goofy as he was in Schitt’s Creek.
