One of my fave songs, David Myles’ ‘When It Comes My Turn’, just turned 20! I recommend a listen (wherever you stream music).

It inspired my poem ‘My Turn’ forthcoming in the 2025 Central Ave Poetry Prize anthology which is available for pre-order: westminster.bookmarkreads.ca/item/AUgNRER...

Summer TBR pile is far too ambitious but I like a challenge.

Now that it’s consistently warm, it’s officially summer reading season!

I’ve just finished On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous which is, in itself, full of gorgeous poetic prose.

I’m pulling together a summer TBR pile. What are you reading this summer?

I’ll share my pile if you share yours!

Looks like my thread that got 14 likes caused the CPC to update its platform document.

"Anti-Woke ideology: A Conservative government will put an end to the imposition of the Woke ideology in the federal public service and in the allocation of federal funds for university research."
Interestingly, the word "woke" doesn't actually appear in the CPC platform.
Pierre Poilievre says he’ll end ‘woke ideology’ — he isn’t saying what that means

In Canada, our history books refer to Liberation Day as May 5, 1945, the day when the Netherlands was finally liberated from Nazi occupation through the hard work, courage and great sacrifices of Canadian and other Allied soldiers. #LestWeForget 🇨🇦🇳🇱

If you hold stocks and you disagree with the policy decisions being made in the US right now, take your money out of the US stock market. Money is the only thing those in power respect right now.

I can suggest a country where you should reinvest it. 🇨🇦

Arguably his best speech during his time as PM because it was the most honest.
NEW: This is brilliant from Trudeau.

"Today, the US launched a trade war against Canada - their closest partner & ally, their closest friend. At the same time, they're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin - a lying, murderous dictator. Make that makes sense." 💥

It is absolutely (and always) the time to ally with Indigenous peoples to plan a sustainable and prosperous path forward for Canada. Be proud of Canada, yes, but don’t let your pride be bound up in ignorance. That’s the path the US took and look where it’s led.
Right now, for a lot of Canadians the temptation is to ignore Indigenous people because the threats from the US seem way more important. This turn to fervent and ignorant nationalism is a mistake. Don't alienate the people who know more about your "country" than you do. Find common cause instead.

Don’t want people talking smack about you? Don’t be a leech on society. Sounds simple but apparently suing people is easier? 🙄

There is no singular Black experience and this is one of the reasons it’s important to read widely. Each of these 28 books by Black authors is compelling and unique and 100% worth picking up not just during #blackhistorymonth but on any day of any year.

Who are your favourite Black authors?

I really want to see Rosemary Barton play a shots game where each time she’s informed the Prime Minister’s press conference time is delayed she takes a shot.

I’m calling it on my January 2025 reads. (Btw, I adore @thestorygraph.com cover collages).

Best read: Sandwich
Runner-up: The Rachel Incident
Most compelling: Onyx Storm
Most surprising: Lula Dean’s Library of Banned Books
Most charming: The Mortal and Immortal Life of the Girl from Milan

If you’re not disgusted, you’re either not paying attention, you’re numb, or you’ve lost your humanity.
Shameful and not even slightly surprising

I cracked the cover of my fourth (and final) French notebook since September. Je me prépare à passer les examens de français, mais j’aimerais continuer à apprendre la langue pour toujours! It’s been an exhausting, challenging, and rewarding experience.
