I’m loving the format of this week’s #TheLastDriveIn (which, as an academic, tracks). I’m especially loving @donnerpartyofone.bsky.social from @miskatonicihs.bsky.social and her insightful points about Argento & Giallo. #MutantFam @therealjoebob123.bsky.social @darcythemailgirl.bsky.social

It’s been an incredible weekend at @pcasacas.bsky.social and #pcasacas25. These are the loveliest humans, and I really do love how supportive and friendly and excited these scholars are. As usual, I will leave with my heart full and my head buzzing with all kinds of new ideas and new media to watch!

#PCASACAS25 starts today in Huntsville—I’m so fond of this conference. It was the first conference I ever presented at, and it’s peopled with the loveliest humans, and it always feels like a homecoming. ❤️

It’s been so long since I’ve wanted to watch a Blumhouse movie because they tell you the entire fucking story in the trailer. GET BETTER TRAILER EDITORS. #horror #blumhouse

It’s not too late! Even though the deadline has technically passed, if you have some #SouthernGothic research you’d like to share at PCAS/ACAS 2025, we’d still be happy to see your proposal!

Just a reminder to the universe—and more specifically to all you #gothic scholars out there—that the deadline to submit for the #SouthernGothic area at PCAS / ACAS is June 15. We’d love to hear your work on film, literature, TV, music, & more!

Go. See. #Sinners.

See it in IMAX if you can.

It’s a triumph of a film.

It’s about heritage and culture and struggle, hate and love, found family making and community building. It’s about how music is how we remember our history.

And it’s deep in the Black Southern Gothic tradition.

How did we get 2 Slasher flicks with no breasts? That's some winning lottery numbers level of rarity.

It’s amazing how pub trivia never manages to ask questions about the immense body of useless knowledge I have, but instead only about the bits that have yet escaped my hyperfixations.

Caught Mickey 17 in IMAX tonight and I have a lot of thoughts and a lot of feelings. First: the trailer doesn’t give away the whole film and I really appreciate that. Second: there is a lot of CGI, but it’s not that obnoxious uncanny valley kind with no texture of reality. #mickey17 #film

#TheMonkey was great—delightful & engrossing & well done. Gory as hell. Such good setups & payoffs. Also absurdly hilarious, which made it a joy to watch (the opposite of the experience of watching #Longlegs, tbh). And there is a wonderful, creepy, perfect moment at the end. 5 stars for me. #horror

Finally seeing #TheMonkey tonight with @bchorror.bsky.social, and I hope everyone else in the theater will forgive how loud I cackle at absurd horror movie deaths. #horror

Any university that voluntarily shutters a DEI program, office or personnel “Because of Trumps Executive Order” is making a PR decision. Not a legal one.

Trumps EO does not change anti discrimination law. If anything, the EO is unlawful.

Universities should treat it that way.

This is an important thread, a peek behind the curtain of #academic publishing from the perspective of editors, and frankly, it’s harrowing to know this is what happens when we submit something on which we worked so hard.
