I’m going to write this novel and the next one and the one after and I have no clue if my agent will like them or be able to sell them or how much they’ll sell for or to whom or how well they’ll perform, but none of that matters because the only thing I can control is the work I put in. Let’s write.

I’m not at the Edgars — catching up on the livestream — but I’m genuinely surprised and disappointed at the use of AI-generated images when there are hundreds of writers in the room, some of whom are plaintiffs in ongoing litigation.

The recommendations from a human. Support indie bookstores yesterday, today, tomorrow, and always. Buy a book or ten today. You deserve it. Indie bookstores deserve it. Happy Independent Bookstore Day!

Life’s been dark lately, which affects the writing, but today I went to the San Antonio Book Festival and then to a friend’s book event and talked to a lot of readers. Panels, signings, and taking photos is cool, but talking to readers? That’s the best. That keeps me going.

Ignorance happens. Sometimes stuff is confusing and you don’t know what’s true or not. But listen, if you side with the people attacking LIBRARIES, you’re an asshole. You’re not ignorant. You’re not confused. You’re an asshole.

Sat down to write. Had to check a continuity thing, so I went back to the beginning. Instead of writing, I deleted about 2k words. Sometimes working feels like undoing, like walking backwards, but that’s good. It makes the work better. Trust the process.
