Not sure how these requirements were implemented in practice though- Tessin's unit histories mentions 1-2 Kav.Schützen regiments for the 4 initial light divisions (see below from vol 2, p 175 for 3. leichte Division)

I've always found the less prominent, "smaller" campaigns of the Civil War particularly interesting- the Prairie Groves, Corinths, Knoxvilles, Olustees and New Markets. Hence this new book by William Marvel on the early 1864 campaigns looks super promising!
